I clipped my trailer onto the rear axle with bits of rusty wire – I had long since lost the original clips – and saddled up. As I left the Priory grounds, the familiar clatter of the bullock gate passing under my wheels caused a mixed emotion of regret and exhilaration…
An hour’s intense drive north of Palayamkottai — along narrow streets packed with dhoti- and sari-clad Tamils, animals (mostly domestic — plenty of ‘holy cows’), autorickshaws, motorcycles, and crowded, horn-blaring buses — lies the tiny village of Singamparai.
Teaching is a challenging affair. But despite its difficulties, trials, and exertions, mine was a wholly positive experience.
