Happy 4th! + Update
Dear Friends and Benefactors,
And particularly to the Yankees among you,
Happy Independence Day from the Orphan Ride Team!
Now for the update:
As the map on the sidebar shows, at least one of the brothers, or such division of the team, (Andrew, in fact) is currently coasting in an easterly way through Western China. Whether or not he’s managed to crack the ‘Great Firewall of China’ and update the map recently is another question. Randall is currently en-route to Singapore, but due to the recent loss of his GPS (story coming soon), is somewhat apprehensive of winding up in Siberia or some other out-of-the-way place. For the present, however, he’s resting up in what is almost certainly the Thai town of Muang Chumphon, supposedly several hundred kilometers south of Bangkok; but undoubtedly located not outside of Asia.
Also newsworthy is the recent fatality of his Canon T2i, due to condensation and subsequent corrosion within the body on a steamy jungle ride near Chiang Mai. Canon Thailand, who was to service it, took an entire week to deliver a repair cost estimate (by that time the camera, incidentally, had practically disintegrated from rust damage), which ended up being around $1,300, or twice its current cost in the U.S.A.. Unfortunately that means our budding amateur won’t be able to take any pictures until he get a new one. However, he’s resigned; as the saying goes in Thailand, mai pen rai! Mai pen rai!
